The Dimarzio Dark Matter 2 is a high-output passive bridge humbucker designed by Steve Vai for use in his mahogany-bodied Jem guitar. It offers a sustain and liquid tone and has subdued top-end frequencies to maintain a full and round tone on the upper frets. The pickup features laser-cut graphics for a unique look. Steve Vai collaborated with DiMarzio to create Dark Matter 2 pickups, including Neck, Bridge, and Middle models, tailored to match the organic character of his new guitar. These pickups maintain high output but have a slightly softer top-end to avoid sharp edges in the high register. The Dark Matter 2 pickups come with custom laser-cut designs on the Neck and Bridge models and are standard in the new Ibanez JEM Woody guitar. They are also available for individual purchase from DiMarzio. The Dark Matter 2 Neck model is only available in F-spacing. This series represents a shift towards a more organic and smoother sound with softer highs and a balanced, modern voice suitable for various playing styles and amplifiers.
