The CAD M179 is a large-diaphragm multipattern condenser microphone with a dual-diaphragm capsule design and transformerless circuitry. It is versatile, providing various pickup patterns, fast transient response, and low self-noise, making it suitable for vocals, voice-overs, and a range of acoustic and amplified instruments. The microphone features continuously variable polar patterns, including cardioid, hypercardioid, subcardioid, figure-8, omnidirectional, and in-between options, allowing users to adjust directional focus and ambient pickup.
The mic's design includes a shockmount to eliminate vibrations and an internal pop filter to reduce breath and plosive sounds. It offers a clean and open sound with a vintage capsule design, advanced head amp design, efficient power circuitry, and a gold-sputtered 1.1" diaphragm. The capsule and circuitry design utilize advanced high-speed op-amps for reduced non-linearity, resulting in low distortion, low noise, and a high output level.
The polar pattern control knob allows users to select patterns quickly and consistently, adjusting from cardioid to subcardioid to omnidirectional or from cardioid to hypercardioid to bidirectional. The microphone also includes a -20 dB pad switch for additional headroom and SPL handling, beneficial for high-volume sources. Furthermore, a user-switchable high-pass filter eliminates noise below 100 Hz, and a stainless steel internal pop/EMI filter reduces breath and electromagnetic interference.
